The course starts with an introduction to portrait painting, where Rein explains the process, materials and techniques you'll use throughout the course. You'll start working right away and learn how to build a portrait step by step in oil paint.
Throughout the six lessons, Rein guides you through the process with personal attention and practical demonstrations. You'll explore colour, composition, light, shadow and brushwork while developing your own way of working.

Rein Schoondorp is a painter trained in the classical academic tradition. Alongside his work as an artist, he built a career as a designer and art director, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary techniques developed throughout his professional practice.
In this course, Rein shares the painting techniques and knowledge he has developed over many years. He believes that curiosity and the willingness to explore are just as important as technical skill, encouraging students to build a strong foundation while developing their own artistic style.
