Exhibition 30 September - 2 October - Open Ateliers Nieuwmarkt Central exhibition

Open House Ateliers Nieuwmarkt

The subway riots of 1975 mark the beginning of the Open Ateliers in the Nieuwmarkt area of Amsterdam. Artists, artisans and residents stood side by side on the baricades to keep the citycouncil from tearing down the old citycenter and building an eightlane highway through their neighbourhood. Social, educational and cultural organizations joint their cause to keep the city lifable. By opening their doors they showed their commitment to the neighbourhood.

Every year artist of the Nieuwmarkt still open their doors for a weekend, this year of 1 and 2 October from 12.00-18.00. During this event artists welcome guests in their ateliers, and show their art, workspace and workmethod. A unique change to see artists in action and get to know the old innercity of Amsterdam and the artists who life and work here.

Friday September 30th the kick off of the weekend is held at Amsterdam House of Arts & Crafts. You are welcome to join this festive opening of the central exhibition from 17.00. More information, participants and route at
