Are you new to drawing or painting and want to start your creative journey from a blank canvas, than we have the course for you.
During the course you will dicover the basic techniques and elements of drawing and painting with acrylic paints. Light/dark, composition, form and shape color and use of materials.
Different excercises will help you get out of your comfort zone to be able to paint and draw more freely. Examine what shapes you like, what color combinations and experiment.

I am Selanna Holleman your teacher at Amsterdam House of Arts & Crafts.
Since graduating from the Breitner Academie in 2024, I have been working as a freelance drawing and painting instructor.
Throughout my studies, I developed experience with a variety of materials and techniques. At the same time I gained skills in teaching this knowledge to different age groups in different educational settings. For my graduation I specialised in drawing, painting, digital animation and video-editing.
I am experienced with acrylic paint and enjoy guiding students as they explore this medium. In my lessons I tend to focus mostly on the personal style development of my students, while helping them with the technical aspects of painting. This way, I hope to give them the tools they need to steer their own creative growth. At the same time I like stimulating people to paint things they wouldn't usually make at home.
BASIC PAINTING
Are you new to drawing and painting and want to start your creative journey, then you are more than welcome to join our basic painting course on Mondaymornings.
The painting course in the evening are open to all levels. We work in groups on our own project but connected by a shared theme. Every class we will start with a short introduction.
Classes end with a short round where we will discuss the work that has been made by the different students.
TIPS & TRICKS
During our courses new broadening your creative horizon is possible. We deepen your knowledge and understanding of the basics of painting and drawing.
Knowledge about color, composition, shape and other image elements will be discussed and experienced.
In the lessons we will work on the basis of themes. This can be a famous painter or a painting technique.
We will give an introduction with examples of the arthistory of a particular thema and give you excersises.
LEARN IN A GROUP
In this course we learn from each other. We discuss the works of fellow students and we will be looking at the progress every one makes.
There is a lot of space for individual expression. Even though the themes will be handed to you by the teacher, how you then translate these themes into your own drawings and paintings is up to you.
At the end of the course you get the chance to show your work in the exhibition.
